Your Health Matters

In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” Let me start this blog by being completely honest with you; health and wellness has never been a priority of mine. Eating pretty healthy I can do, but going to the gym…let’s just say I’ve paid for a gym membership at a gym that didn’t see me much (waste of money). Now John on the other hand, could live there. No matter what city he is in, he will find him a gym. But when we look at the verse from Corinthians, we see we need to glorify God in our bodies. So, if we aren’t taking care of our bodies, we aren’t fully glorifying God…OUCH! Everything from what we put into our bodies to what we do to it on the outside must glorify God. There are some health issues we cannot control but eating and exercising properly may be able to help those issues and prevent others.

Let’s talk food. We all love the good unhealthy food that does not love us! And I say it does not love us because it can contribute to the health issues we have like high blood pressure, weight gain and the sluggishness we tend to have after eating it. But the key is to find a healthy alternative to the foods we love. For example; I have found a healthier way to eat “fried chicken”. Instead of frying the chicken on the stove, I bake it in the oven. I season it, lightly coat it with flour, spray it with olive oil, stick it in the oven and it comes out crispy. My family loves it and you really can’t tell it’s not fried chicken other than the lack of grease! You have to do your research on the food you eat; studies are showing some of these foods contribute to a lot of the major health issues people are having. I don’t know about you, but I do not want to be glued to a pill bottle if I don’t have to. So if I can cut out certain foods, then I will.

Exercising…a topic I do not like at all but it is a part of healthy living. As I stated before, I am not a fan of the gym and until this year never took working out seriously (other than during my pregnancies).  For 5 years John has “preached” to me about the importance of working out and I have done the yeah I know thing but this year I listened and started exercising and guess what, I started liking it. I found myself setting fitness goals and looking online for more exercises and products to help obtain my fitness goals. I can honestly say, I feel better because I took the step to healthier living. I’m not going to lie and say it was easy because it’s not but it is totally worth it. Yes, I can find excuses as to why I can’t workout but then I look at 2 little boys who need their mommy to be around and healthy. You may say “I can’t afford a gym membership”, well I don’t have one either. I work out in my home (let’s just say we have a mini gym at our house); I find videos online, DVDs and of course I have John. But we have to do something. Find an accountability partner to help you stay focused on your goals. When you are living a healthier lifestyle, you feel and look better. If you are already living a healthy lifestyle and your spouse isn’t, try encouraging them to join you. Even if they say no, one day they may say yes. Keep trying, it took me 5 years to get it! God wants us healthy, so let’s glorify Him through our bodies!

Be blessed...love y'all for real!
